Distributed Social networking comes on strong

So where’s the profile page - on your blog?

Or is your blog - on your Social Network?

And if you have a blog - that’s ‘part’ of your social network environment, does it have it’s OWN stand alone blog display or is it integrated in along with your activity stream, apps, friends list and media gallery?

Can you route your blog posts - to other blogs, publishing end-points or file repositories?

Same thing about your media? When you upload a video or podcast, can you ALSO store it in YouTube, blip.tv or Seesmic?

And are you aggregating your comments across a bunch or different commenting systems?

And your Twits and micro-blogging status report, presence updates? Are these locked into the Twitter platform or aggregated in FriendFeed?

And do you use Meebo for IM or what?

Were do you READ your RSS feeds?

Distributed Social Networking is becoming a reality. DiSO and NoseRub are two great examples of loosely coupled systems that are evolving quickly.

yes Virginia - indeed distributed open anything is gonna keep heating up - now that Facebook Connect and Google Friend Connect are live. OpenSocial is gaining steam and next up - MySpace Data Availability.

Oh and BTW. Ever heard of a company called Microsoft? They’ve just shipped and entire boatload of Open APIs to mesh in with the rest of us. And lets not write off Yahoo!

Whether you call it Facebook trying to take over the web, Battling for Mindshare, a three horse race or Federate or Aggregate - it’s clear that “Open is the New Black“. This is what we’ll be discussing at next week’s LeWeb8 panel “Platform Love”.

Now it’s time for compelling experiences. And proof that open can benefit vendors as much as customers.

Turkey blogging ‘08

Change.gov supports OpenID

OpenSocial, Facebook and Microsoft vie for developers. We’ll have these three companies, and SixApart on my panel at LeWeb8 in two weeks.

When Dare Obasanjo finds something overwhelming - we’re talking seriously geeky. I grabbed about 5 of these posts and will be giving them away as X-Mas gifts. I believe this poster was done by Angus Logan.

Dare also has a great post on Facebook Connect and how Facebook is free of baggage (which Microsoft isn’t.) We’ll be having Jeff Hansen on our panel in Paris - and I’ll bring this issue up with Jeff “Can Microsoft ever leave behind Passport?”
