building the open web one bit at a time

Gettin’ ready for Turkey Day blogging ‘09

We’re headed to NYC for Turkey Day.  As someone said to me, out here it’s not a matter of how far, but how long.  So NYC is 7 hours from here.

Automatic captioning and timing from Google on YouTube videos. Man oh man - is that gonna save my students a bunch of time!  All you have to do is upload a transcription file to the video its associated with and Google will add exact timecode logs to your transcriptions.  [NOTE:  This is extensively needed when logging hundreds of hours of interviews!]

I’m using my ‘buildtheopenmesh‘ wiki for the Beta Block class.  This will give you a good idea of what we’re up to and what the Hessler St. fiber optic project ….. is.

I’m starting to learn about all sorts of great orgs in the area.  One of them is Goldstein Caldwell and Assoc. I’ve met Dar so far, next up - Todd!

Will books survive?  a Scorecard…..

Identity Roadmap ‘09

My dear friend Cara Keithly and others are putting on an event called “OWL - Strategic Focus for Social Media in Non-Traditional Businesses” in Columbus on Nov. 24th. I can highly recommend going to hear Cara speak!

Here’s a great shot from John Fleshin last year’s Hessler St. Fair.  It’ll immediately give you an idea of what the Fair is like.

Congrats to the U.S. Senate for doing the right thing. Now we gotta deal with getting abortions funded separately.

This guy needs some better stuff.  10-12 joints a day is ridiculous.  He needs to go to Amsterdam or Vancouver to get the good stuff! Clearly this ‘Federally grown’ stuff is ditch weed.

Call for papers on safety - NOTE TO SELF - send danah outline of the public safety cams we’re doing on Hessler St.

  1. Hi there. I’m interested in auditing the Beta Block class and/or being involved in the project some other way. This should be an amazing project with the potential to learn a ton about how to do this type of open, community-based stuff.
