building the open web one bit at a time

Sun Showers in March

In the middle of the pouring rain yesterday the sun came out.  This was the first time my daughter Lucy had ever experienced a sun shower.  It amazed her - almost as much as I’m being amazed by Facebook nowadays.

I’m not sure if any if you out there understand how hard it is to be doing what Facebook is doing - innovating so disruptively, moving so quickly, listening, recruiting, building a company - and oh - opening up bit by bit.  We’re watching history in the making - and with 50% of their users coming back every day - they’re also redefining engagement.

David Recordon groks this - and he’s declaring that by 2010 Facebook will be ………….

Meanwhile Microsoft’s aggressive move into ‘open source’ continues with the recruitment of Sam Ruby. I wonder if they’ll let Sam stay in N. Carolina or move him up to Redmond?

Over at Yahoo they’re not sitting still and Yahoo Updates is their latest in their on-going attempt at implementing the ‘Open Stack’. They’ve announced a deal with JS-Kit.  But somebody should tell Chris Saad that JS-Kit (though certainly very coolio) is NOT a social networking system. Pluuuuuueeeeze.

Congrats to Allen Hurff on making the cut. He’s one of us.  And he’s SVP of Engineering of MySpace.

These on-going platforms battles force all sorts of hands and turn beer drinking, right-wing fanboy sites into respectable ‘Generation Forward’ kind of sites. Funny how competition effects you.

Transparency camp on the road theSocialWeb.tv episode #31.

Lucas Gonze has released a new kind fo radio station. This is what he’s been up to since he left Yahoo.

I agree with Rafe Needleman - what’s not to like about Silverstone Solutions? Dave Jacob’s life saving kidney donor software.  Dave is actively looking for investors and salesmen - and his code has saved over 30 lives so far!  DISCLOSURE:  I’m an advisor to BigDave - the original BigDave.

  1. “by 2010 Facebook will be ………….“

I hope so. I hope the sheer number of Mozillians who’ve Facebooked off—…errm: gone to Facebook—will make this happen.

So, hey. Next we need decentralised comments. Sounds like a job for… Captain Atom!
