My eldest son graduated from high school - yesterday
Seeing my eldest son Aryeh up on stage during his high school graduation caused my eyes to swell and rushing memories of his life, the journey we’ve been on together and our future time ahead swirling through my head.
What is weirdest - is that he really looks like me.
He’s a graduate of the JCHS - Jewish Community High School of San Francisco. He’s going to spend a year in Israel and then go to McGill University in Montreal.
After it was all over (and the adults had left the stage) they left the kids up there by themselves and THIER music started playing. I then saw Aryeh start rocking and swaying to the beat, rejoicing in becoming a real man. Not at the 13th year, as Jewish religion dictates - but at graduating high school and moving on - which is how our society dictates.
Aryeh will be 18 in July and at that point he’s legally responsible for himself.
Seeing him up there, dancing, rocking to the beat of “Send me on my way” - by Rusted Root - made me feel the proudest. he knows how to party and enjoy life. I couldn’t have taught him better myself.
Congrats to Aryeh Samet Canter
