PR, insider games and the rest of us
I appreciate Mr. Loic Lemeur espostulating his own take on PR and providing a little pushback to Brian Solis. Afterall - allot of what Loic says is true. he talks about community and friends and honesty - all terms and notions which are foreign to the traditional world of PR.
But I do feel it’s my job to point out that Loic moved his family from Paris and started a company here in the Bay Area - simply to be near the ‘insiders’, the Silicon Valley set who help spawn early adopters, VC funding and in general - play the insider’s game.
Loic appears to be a master at it. His Seesmic video commenting and conversation system is taking off, after Loic slowly leaked out the beta requests and urged all sorts of insiders to use the system.
The ultimate insiders - Stephen Speilberg and George Lukas recently used Sessmic to talk about their latest film launch - so what’s the best way to get PR?
Let others do it for you?
What’s the best way to do PR in today’s world? Well don’t hire a PR firm - that’s for sure.
Move to Silicon Valley.
That’s what Loic did - and it worked.
NOTE: That one Robert Scoble also does not bring up their most obvious of PR techniques.
Now for the rest of you - too bad - you don’t count. NOT.

Nice post. The whole PR 2.0 meme appears to be very self serving to the Pro Blogging elite. I find myself doubting the long-term viability of Seesmic as it has been built primarily on the good will of Loic’s community and seemingly incestuous investment and partnering maneuvers. What actual value does Seesmic provide in terms of technology or IP? Their web site is barely functional. I suspect they will get destroyed when some real competition raises their head.

thanks Marc. Scott, thank you for all your wishes of success, that is what I like in America, people are all positive!

Loic, why do you believe that you are deserving of my wishes of success? I think criticism is much more valuable than ass kissing. Take it or leave it. My point is that I don’t believe that public relations should be a business model. Users rarely benefit when the market is manipulated.
Bonne chance!

PR Secret #8
French CEO’s trying to establish businesses here probably should not make sarcastic remarks in public that might be interpreted as denigrating Americans.
