Connecting at the API level

Now that Live Mesh has been released and the upcoming takeover of Yahoo will be completed - its time for us to contemplate connecting the giant set of resources and assets of Microsoft and Yahoo together.

To me its obvious that this all happens at the API layer.  Kara Swisher shot a video yesterday where I talk about that.

Kevin Rose talks about (on the same Kara video) these two cultures being disconnected and that’s why the deal won’t happen.  But as we’ve seen over and over again - that two cultures not meshing has never prevented mergers from happening before.

This will (obviously) be a great concern of Microsoft’s - they’re not stupid.   So keeping the Yahoo brand and culture in tact will probably be a major strategy of Microsoft’s.  And what better way of doing that - than to keep all that php code in tact and simply connect into the Borg - at the API level?

In other words - Microsoft will finally get a REAL toe hold in Silicon Valley - and its called Yahoo.

And that toe hold will not only bring them the world of Web 2.0 and open source, but also force THEM into opening up THEIR APIs to all their major assets and properties (at least the on-0line resources) and make THEM the #1 brand in the world - again.

This is (obviously) really good news for all of US - as we can then mesh into that mashup - and make MONEY.

Marc, you put yourself out there, and that makes some people uncomfortable (I guess) that’s why they treat you poorly. I’ve learned a lot from you over the years, from the very first time I met you. I remember visiting Macromind’s Chicago office in 1987, and seeing an early version of Director and being blown away by what a Mac could do. Don’t let the assholes get you down. Stay focused on what you do so well and uniquely — making the world a more interesting place.
