Boycott Google? If they’re helping Republicans - why should we help them?
This post says that Google is the official - whatever the fuck for Republicans.
Now lets see - McCain says he’ll keep troops in Iraq for 100 years, he wants to ban abortion and supports waterboarding ………… isn’t that enough?
And Google is gonna help them?
I wonder what Brad Horowitz thinks about this? I wonder if he would have gone to work at Google if he knew this.
And I wonder what Megan Smith and Kara think about this? I assume Eric Schmidt is the Republican - right?
This is enough for me to stop helping Google, thinking and talking about OpenSocial - of basically to have anything to do with Google.

I agree it’s *not* a good look, and I can’t imagine it’s something they floated past the entire company, or they would have discovered just how daft a move it really is.
I’m there are some google services that they couldn’t deny to anyone for fear of running afoul of anti-discrimination laws, but this looks like the sort of situation where they should have more leeway for discretion.
They’re gonna need some of the top brass to denounce this unfortunate decision, or it could be a PR disaster.

First China/Censorship, & now the Republicans?
I imagine they’ve got one helluva dog & pony show up their sleeves to counter this move.
Sure, Switzerland could get away with this…but Google?
Ugh. Unless they pull a Spielberg, I *hope* this gets ugly for them.

Proceed with caution: Google employees overwhelmingly donate to Democrats.
$141,963 to Democrats, $38,692 to Republicans

What’s the deal here? Do you know? Is Google donating services? Selling them at fair market value? Boycott or no watching the video of this announcement diminishes Google’s brand equity for me. Very creepy.
Must say, though, so far, it’s supporters of Democratic candidates–especially Barack Obama — who have made best use of Google’s YouTube. “Yes we Can,” and anti-McCain answer video most recently.

Would you feel the same way if it was Democrats?
If not, that’s hypocrisy.
Either way, it’s idiotic.
When did the Democrats become the party of Hate?
Just because you disagree with Republicans, doesn’t mean they’re evil. So what if Google is doing this? So what if they do the same thing with the Democrats?

As I understand it, Google has done the exact same deal with both parties, but the Republicans were first out of the traps with announcing it and making a big hoopla about it. Eric Schmidt is a major donor to the Democratic party, as a quick search will reveal. No endorsement of either parties is implied by deals like this.

Marc, that post is from the GOP, and smacks of GOP spin-meistering.
I’m not saying that the Democrats would spin it any differently, but that there’s nothing on that page that makes it sound like Google is “helping” the GOP. Google’s offering services the same as they do to anyone else and the Republicans are spinning that to mean that Google supports them. And you’re falling for it, Marc.

I have to disagree Mark. Google is a business and it’s support of Republicans is called hedging your bets– they’re asupporting Democrats too. It makes sense to have suported whichever side ends up winning b/c then you’re in a beter position to achieve your ends, whether they lean more Democratic or Republican.
Just read Robert Reich’s (former Sec. of Labor under Clinton) book, Supercapitalism, and he describes the need to remove moral values/judgements from corporations becaue corporations are to make money, that is it. The problem is that have been given moral compasses and they shouldn’t have. Let the political system decide/judge moral issues and make corporations single objective to bring shareholder value.

If they’re helping the good old party, they need to be eliminated with frickin’ satellite laser rays. it’s the only way.

Looks like regular old mashup that anyone can do: “The convention’s official website, http://www.GOPConvention2008.com, will eventually feature a full-range of GoogleTM products, including Google Apps, Google MapsTM, SketchUpTM, and customized search tools…”

You know, I have to say, posts like that are a testament to America.
It just goes to show you, that in America, even a complete idiot like Mark Canter can be successful.
I love this country.

I see any big business as playing both sides until they know who the victor will be. They are sluts, plain and simple, until they figure out who has the bigger wallet. Look how many companies refused to make any kind of move until they saw Blu-Ray was winning and then dumped their support of HD-DVD.
This isn’t nearly as amusing a conspiracy theory, though, as Tom Hodgkinson’s belief that Facebook is a tool of the neocons (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/jan/14/facebook).

Do No Evil ?
The Google Geek Neo-Con, and his incredible panoptic technology, now serving the Republican Party ? Doesn’t the Republican Party already have enough tools to spy on the American people? Bush & Co. are spying on the Americans, now all you do and have done on the internet will be available to the Neo-Con geeks?
Google helping the Republicans could mean (more) surveillance of your actions on the internet, of your desires, interests, ideas, in order to profile you ideologically and send you the Google AdWords that will convince you that the Republican candidate has it right for you… Imagine all the Adwords transformed into neoconservative political messages! This is insane
Fight for your privacy, avoid Google surveillance with Tor, Scroogle and the like :
