We’re 341 out of 586 in Programmable Web

Right now we’re the featured system with an API in Programmable Web’s excellent blog on mashups, APIs and the open, programmable web.

I’ve been a fan of Musser’s since he first launched and I have this fantasy bet with John, which I actually haven’t ever formalized with him yet - but we’ve talked about it.

I say that within 5 years -“over 50% of all the APIs in Programmable Web will have two-way APIs (i.e. suck as well as spit.)” Cause without two-way APIs - we’ll never be able to freely move our stuff back and forth between systems.  Now I just have ot get John’s side of teh bet and five years from now Johna nd I can find out who was right, just like Winder showed Nisenholtz the evolution of RSS.

These APIs are the heart and soul of our industry. They represent the essence of the distributed web - and we should never forget how important those original Amazon, eBay, Flickr and Google APIs were in our evolution.

Now we need to move forward significantly to two-way APIs.  Because until I can freely take stuff out and put it back into any and all accounts, we’re not there - yet.  I’ve been asking of this from MyYahoo for a while now.  And now I think we can expect it from every open system.

John has promised to have these attributes are additional criteria to keep track of - in future versions of Programmable Web.

I promise that when we get time - we’ll fill out the form better with lots of relevant info for our potential developers.

But it is cool to be up there on a list with Jott and Widgetbox. It makes me feel so Web 2.0ish.

Thanks John!
