Skewed American press
On one hand we have an American Intelligence Estimate report saying that Iran stopped making A-Bombs years ago - while the Bush administration is using a diversionary tactic to take our attention off of their failed efforts in Iraq and Afganistan. Yet Americans and the American press just eat up the lies that guy Bush keeps handing us.
And now we have election results down in Venezuela - where I’m reading all sorts of interpretations of what Chavez said, what he intends to do moving forward and how he’s conciliatory - yet still - this or that.
I just can’t get a straight story.
There are many subtleties to this story which even the NY Times version did not cover. Will the pensions for street vendors and housewives be passed separately? Will the work day to reduced to 6 hours a day? Will the socialist revolution continue or will the Oil companies win back their assets? Clearly the CIA did an all out effort to defeat this referendum - but what else went on?
For Chavez to admit defeat is key.
Now we have to wait and see what happens next. But go and compare how the different publications cover this - this is a classic situation where European coverage will look completely different than U.S. media coverage.
Remember this is one of the ONLY world leaders who’s standing up to U.S. aggression - calling us on our bullshit. But his conciliatory posture and honest humility also proves that he’s NOT a dictator.
So what he does next - will be key and I’m just afraid we won’t get the real story.
Well I guess I’ll just have to read the Economist.

Namaste Marc.
You are right that we won’t get the real story in the mainstream media. That’s why I watch Democracy Now!
There was a segment addressing Venezuela at the beginning of today’s (12/3) show from 1:22 to 3:02. In it, Chavez states “I congratulate my adversaries for their victory. We are made for a long battle.”

Hi Marc,
http://www.venezuelanalysis.com/analysis/2943
This link is useful in decoding the BS of oil politics in Venezuela. It is interesting to dig deep in to the Bolivarian revolution: a political movement that encompasses ancient Mayan prophecies, modern resource struggles and the ever-evolving native struggle to “de-Europeanize” themselves. I am marrying a South American woman and her opinion of Chavez is quite low. I myself find him stylishly irritating (like a guilty pleasure), but nonetheless, there can be no questioning the historical significance of his movement.
Could it be that he rises to the global audience as an egalitarian leader, despite the corporate media’s insistence that he is a dictator. Are they doing to him what they did to Dean on the campaign trail? Or is he exercising his ego under the guise of socialism? The Republicans use Christianity to stay in office, could Chavez be using the poor to eliminate term limits? With all the disinformation covering the truth, only time can tell the truth for those on this side of the equator.
Stay tuned and let the internet defeat disinformation!
Talk to you tomorrow

Your beloved Chavez just called the opposition victory “shit”.
So much for humility and not being a dictator. Ha!
Chavez says Venezuela opposition vote win stinks
CARACAS, Dec 5 (Reuters) - President Hugo Chavez on Wednesday called the Venezuelan opposition’s unprecedented victory in the weekend’s referendum “shit,” signaling the firebrand former soldier was back on the offensive after initially humbly accepting his loss.
The self-styled socialist revolutionary was angry at a local newspaper report saying he had conceded victory in the narrow vote on expanding his powers only after the military pressured him. He called the report “shit,” too.
“It’s calm, so keep it calm,” Chavez said at a news conference in a message to the opposition. “I wish you knew how to manage your victory. But you are already covering it with shit. It’s a shit victory and it’s yours.” …………………….

Marc, You should publish this comment at least. And do read the whole article.
“the happy outcome of Venezuela’s most recent election should not be construed as showing that Hugo Chavez harbors no dictatorial ambitions, but neither should it be taken to be proof of the infallible wisdom of the democratic system. Instead, it indicates what we should suspect already—namely, that Hugo Chavez is no fool, and he is prepared to be prudent in order to get what he wants. And one day, he still may.”
