Bringing social to software in Paris
Today is the panel I organized at LeWeb3. It’s entitled “bringing social to software” and it will cover a trend which I believe will continue to become more and more prevalent and obvious throughout 2008.
The paradigm of social networking works great for dating, having fun and discovering new and old friends. But we’re going to see more and more the notion of social media, social graph and social networking APIs into email, maps, Intranets, legacy systems and basically - all forms of software.
Google’s OpenSocial is an example of that (in it’s second deployment phase.) Hans-Peter Brondmo will talk about how Plum is adding media sharing to web sites like Michelin. We (Broadband Mechanics) have added social features like reviewing, rating and “I’m a fan of” to a movie downloading site by Bell Canada and Tariq Krim will talk about future plans of NetVibes.
We also have a woman I met in Amsterdam during PICNIC - Susan Kish - talk about how corporations inside the Firewall are utilizing social features - to help HR functions, corporate blogging, sharing knowledge and facilitating mergers.
For all of you who can’t be here - hopefully Loic and the folks from LeWeb3 will videotape the panel.
I’m wearing two shades of gold. And here’s a shot of the Paris Opera house - as evidence I’m really here.
