Explaining OpenSocial

Just got back from an OpenSocial social at Plaxo - where Plaxo showed off their compatibility with OpenSocial APIs.  We got to discuss a little about ‘bringing social to software‘ - as I see all this as just a precursor to a 2008 where social features will creep into all forms of sotware.

Plaxo certainly agrees.

Robert Scoble and myself also videotaped three chunks - which go over a bunch of stuff.

If you’re into finding out the politics of OpenSocial and why Google did it - you should watch the videos.

I did 3 other interviews as well - which I’m not sure when they’ll come out - but needless to say this story ain’t over it - is barely begun. But folks are right - the way toi stands right now - its really just OpenWidgets.

Can’t wait for the other foot to drop.

  1. I’m curious about some simple questions: how much information can you get out via the API, and how much can you put in. I’m looking for information liquidity and bi-directional flow. Everything else flows from that.
