I’m in London town now - 5th time this year
NOTE to Dave Winer - Twitter is not a social network. No formal friending, just voyeuristic non-reciprocated following. No galleries or widgets and no groups - dude. Without groups it ain’t no social network. IMHO
I have to wonder - as its not clear is Mike Arrington did - how many of these 100k Ning networks: have more than 50 people in them? 150 people? How ’bout 1,500 people in them? When is a network a network?
I agree with Owen Thomas here - Yahoo is desperately in need of good managers who can ship and integrate all tehse acquisitions. I’m afraid the old guard needs to get out. So buying Zimbra makes sense - from that POV.
Lordy Lordy - RapLeaf with MerchantCircle. Hmmmmm
Windows Live ID adds Beta support for Information Cards with Windows CardSpace! Congrats to Kim and team!
Tariq calls it ‘ecosystem‘ but all it really is - is a better directory UI for choosing NetVibes widgets. Now that’s what I call optimistic marketing.
Congrats to Matt Mullenweg and the Wordpress community on version 2.3. They’re having a party!

Thanks Marc - I appreciate it.
Gee I feel sorry for you having to go to London. Make sure you stay away from . And above all, avoid St. John, which would carry your “suffering” to an extreme conclusion…

Twitter may not be a social network. But it is a web application with Social Network Stuff baked in.
Sorry, but I can’t agree that “Without groups it ain’t no social network.” But I can’t agree with Danah either that it’s just profiles and friending. For me Communication is vital or there’s nothing to do there (see LinkedIn) except collect names. But I don’t want to specify what type of communication is necessary whether it’s one-to-one, one-to-few, one-to-many, or few-to-few group discussions. The better and more complete YASNs have all of the above as well as some of the other combinations of One, Few, Many.
