Blogging from the DataSharingSummit
I finally got to meet a fresh faced Mark Zukerberg at this party. He told me I was one of his heroes. I told him I was proud of him, but that he went only 98% of the way and that he had to change his TOS. The groupies pushed me aside to get at him, and pushed them back “Hey! We’re talking BUSINESS here! You can jump his bones - l8r!”
Speaking of Facebook, I love Robert Scoble’s bantering and comments on danah boyd’s recent diatribe at Facebook. A lot of people didn’t like what Facebook did.
Facebook apps are already moving to MySpace. That’s what I asked the iLike guys at their party the other night “are you gonna develop for platforms OTHER than Facebook?” That’s the real measure of a successful platform. Does it give birth to products that can then spread to other platforms. That’s what we saw with the Mac - and we (MacroMind) were one of the first products (Director) to move from the Mac to Windows. So WhereI’veBeen going to MySpace shows that Facebook really IS a platform. Now lets see what happens.
Congrats to the Seedcamp winners. And one from Slovenia! I love Slovenia. We’re definitely gonna hire a team in Slovenia! I wanna go back and buy some land there.

Twitter’s APIs get x10 the traffic than the Twitter web app.
MySpace: How to devalue a platform in three easy steps
Netscape R.I.P. - or will they keep it going as ‘a traditional news site’? What about AOL News? That seems fine to me.
The debate on our Bill of Rights continues - which is one reason we did it. To get people talking about these issues. The folks at the DataSharingSummit (led by Randy Farmer) - ripped it to shreds and rewrote it. So they’ll be a second draft - for sure! But Joseph Smarr has to finish his first vacation in two years - first.
Its great to see Adam Curry’s wavey blond hair in SF with Dvorak. I wonder if Irina was impressed? Maybe I should tell her of the time Adam and I did the pilot for CNet - or what it was like to be on his board at Think NewIdeas. Or that time in Amsterdam, at the Krasnapolski…..
Imagine a terrabyte hard drive with 64G of RAM. Start up your machine in :05 (from RAM) and run the equivalent of a mainframe from your laptop. When will this be available? I also LOVE the idea of application specific drives. This is what I’ve wanted to do with USB memory stocks - pre-load them with PeopleAggregator - running a baby server and………..
Multiply, CollegeFanz, College.com
Its kind of fun for me for the world to wake up to who Apple computer really is. All sorts of folks are giving up on Apple. Now I hate to say I told you so………..
Access to 20B relationships across 260M accounts - as long as THEY (the end-user) wants to access their account.
I wonder if the new Industry Standard will bring back roof parties - too?

Marc, Thanks again for organizing a great “Data Sharing Summit.” I think you might be going a bit easy on young Mr. Zuckerberg. My own write-up on the summit bears the headline, “Facebook snubs Data Sharing Summit,” and I think it may provoke some thoughts: http://therealmccrea.wordpress.com/2007/09/09/facebook-snubs-data-sharing-summit/
