Greetings from Trieste, Italy - blog links #1

Turns out VideoCounter is tracking who’s looking at your videos - across different video hosting sites. Wouldn’t it be coolio to have one app to UPLOAD videos to multiple sites?

Now tell me again how one vendor’s actions don’t affect another vendor? Or cause vendors to start thinking differently? Doesn’t this prove that vendor’s will gradually open up - if they’re forced to - by other’s gradually opening up? And doesn’t that say that EVENTUALLY they’ll totally open up? MySpace changing their tune shows how powerful opening up can be…….

If you’ve never been with me when I spontaneously explode into a little ‘La Traviata’ after a great meal - check this out. Si - Io son baritono.

Speaking of trust - I hope I make it onto Euan Semple’s list. I don’t do MAC, or anything Apple, even though my initials are Marc Aaron Canter. I used to be called BigMac. We were Apple’s 10th Mac developer. So then why would they………….

danah boyd on class divisions between MySpace and Facebook

The topic of “whatever happened to Yahoo’s centrazlied ID system?” is a hot one.  I asked for that 3.5 years ago!  I just assumed hey were working on it.  Then a year ago I asked: “so what’s up wit dat?”  Same thing with MyYahoo APIs?  Me thinks there’s trouble in then thar hills!

Dave should not be surprised that Apple is once again - manipulating users to go out and buy something new when the old works just fine. They did this over and over again before - and they’ll do it again.

I agree with Stowe Boyd - Facebook should allow folks to be members of more than one network!  How stupid!

And needless to say - the backlash has started against all those ‘viral’ Facebook invites filling up your InBox.  Don’t worry - it’ll subside.   It did with Friendster, Orkut and MySpace.  And now Facebook is enjoying the high growth new member signup/usage rise.  But all this will pass.

I’m sorry if I couldn’t make it to FM’s (John Battelle’s) rooftop party.  I used to attend those ‘Standard’ parties - all the time.  The best part was lining up waiting to get in.

Hmmm - I wonder if Adam Curry is coming to Gnomedex - again?

Some glimpses inside of Google.

Can’t wait to see the BBCs iPlayer- deployed!

Congrats to Robert Kaye and Musicbrainz on their deal with the BBC!  That’s one open standard that’s getting traction!
