In general parlance, vegetarian = ovo lacto vegetarian. (Those that eat the muscle/flesh of any animal---bird or fish alike---aren't really vegetarians, even here.) [Also found it interesting that an Indian friend considers fungus---mushrooms---to be non-veg, because some fungi have demonstrated locomotion, albeit slowly.] Vegetarian society (International) would define him as a vegan (or strict vegetarian).
