Greetings from Delhi

I came here to go to a wedding reception of my partner Gaurav and his new wife Palak.

At the party - Arvind - one of our senior coders was telling a story of his experiences in the States when he came to visit us.

“So I tell them I’m a Vegetarian, and they offer me en egg omelet.”

Everyone burst out laughing.

You see in India - eggs are not considered vegetarian. Neither is Fish of Chicken.

:-)

Vegetarian society (International) would define him as a vegan (or strict vegetarian).
In general parlance, vegetarian = ovo lacto vegetarian.

(Those that eat the muscle/flesh of any animal—bird or fish alike—aren’t really vegetarians, even here.)

[Also found it interesting that an Indian friend considers fungus—mushrooms—to be non-veg, because some fungi have demonstrated locomotion, albeit slowly.]
