Verdi story

So we’re staying 100 meters from the Teatro Verdi in Trieste and I’m an opera singer and Verdi is the man.

So I turn on the TV today and there’s a dubbed version of a movie made back in the 60’s about Verdi’s life. In this movie (and I’m not sure if this is truth or fiction) the audience and orchestra follow Verdi home after a premiere and serenade him from the street.

I seem to remember they were playing the famous chorus from Nabucco, but in this Italian dubbed version it was a theme from La Traviata. Anyway - it was a historic moment as the audience was overwhelmed with the beauty and genius of Verdi.

It made me think of Steve Jobs on stage, the strategy and cunning of Microsoft, the youthful playfulness of Yahoo and Google and most of all - the brilliant vision and independence of Dave Winer, DanBricklin, Evan Williams, Shawn Fanning, Mary Hodder, Dave Sifry, Mark Zuckerberg, Tariq Krim, Ross Mayfield or Simon Grice.

Its the entrepreneurs and creative types that drive this world forward - and Verdi did it with style.
