Aggregating the aggregators
Years ago when I first came up with the name PeopleAggregator (back in 2003) - I knew that the moment in time would come when we’d actually have to aggregate people in some new way or approach.
Its such a good name, but I knew we wouldn’t be the only ones trying to achieve this enviable goal. I’ve actually had people tell me to change the name of our current social networking and blogging platform - as we’re not really aggregating people - yet! But I tell these critics“give me a chance, we’ll get there!”
Today multiple vendors are all trying to solve the ‘aggregate profile’ problem but none of them will be able to solve the entire problem, simply because - by definition - no end-user will want to lock themselves up into a single vendor’s solution.
In today’s day and age - no lock in, is the new lock in. No vendor should attempt to solve everyone’s problem because their own success becomes a problem. That’s what’s wrong with MyBlogLog or Twitter. The tech is incredible, but I don’t wanna lock myself into Evan William’s vice - so he can sell his company off to Google or MySpace and lock us in - all over again.
So then how do we solve the dilemma?
Well I call it ‘aggregate the aggreagtors‘.
Why not let dabble aggregate video links, and Plum share and connect stuff from devices, let Figdt act like a social networking address book, and ProfileLinker maintain a network of nerds who are so into SNS that that’s all they talk about. Spock IDs can be claimed, one will be able to swarm around a web site with MugShot, listen to stories get HypeIt-ed and UpScoop all your profile records together, or just let MyLifeBrand, profileomat and claimID do what they’re good at!
Why not come up wih a hub approach that simply acts as a remote control on one’s………… well you get the idea.
So what we’re gonna do is connect into these services and provide a way for our customers to connect to the other aggregator’s customers - ’cause lord knows once you start aggregating - there’s really no limit as to ‘how many is enough’.
In other words we won’t be just linking ino the source accounts (like Flickr, YouTube or Facebook) well be linking to the linkers.
