Leaving Cannes

cannes1.jpgMy dear old friend Ferhan Cook has a new blog - MobiAd News - which focuses on Mobile ads. Which is coolio, cause the other night in Amsterdam I met some mobile ad nerds - so I’m hooking them up together.

Then as I’m walking back from my session Eyal Hertzog of Metacafe says to me “Yah we’d love to have a social network in Metacafe.” Well DUUUUUUUUUUUUDE - lets do it!

I ran into an old buddy Ken Rutkowski - who’s doing some slamming video and audio casts, Jemima Kiss showed up and interiewed me (I just love her - she’s so dam smart - and she’s at the Guardian now), I met the dudes from ex Machina - at the Media Republic boat party, Hendrik Werdlein of Joost, and an interesting German ‘current.tv’ kind of video play which is actually broadcasting UGC on normal TV - called FiveWorks (or fünfwerken if you’re German - which I’m not - but speak enought to get into trouble on a Soap Opera.)

cannes2.jpgI met this whack Italian named Sebastiano Vitale wearing yellow pants who did this brilliant pitch for AMEX at the awards thingie. Ciao Bello!

The Milia/MipTV scene was quite a trip. Cannes, the Cosstte, the media crowd, Spike Lee, the French - I can see why the entire film business goes there once a year. They had me do an innovator’s breakfast - which was fun. They even had this little social network they wrote themselves.

I had a great time in Cannes and Milia and I hope to return next year. Thanks to Ferhan for bringing me back. I hadn’t been there in 13 years.
