Greetings from Cannes and Milia

So I’m at a dinner given by Bablegum (Silvio Scaglia’s new company) in Cannes and I’m listening to Spike Lee talk about his work. One of the things about being in France is that we were served these tiny little canapes and appetizers - and that was dinner.

This harkened back to my experiences at Les Blogs2.  Loic was so kind as to alter his feeding instincts (actually his wife’s) and feed us more in an American way at LesWeb.  But the food was still superb.

So that’s what I’m officially in favor of - French quality with American quantity.

Anyway - I’m speaking here at Milia.  I was last here 13 years ago.

Babelgum seems coolio and I got to ask Silvio and Spike about DRM (I’m acting as Cory Doctorow’s proxy here.)   My question directly followed some film distributer’s question about maintaining DRM and rights territories - so I couldn’t help but retort

“well if you folks wanna end up like the music business fine, but I thought it was about making money, not rights.  You’d better wake up or you’ll be wishing you’d listened to me - way back in ‘07.   Don’t make me tell you I told you so!

:-)
