Microsoft and the OpenID community have decided to support each other. In depth coverage here. Congrats to all! THis is important news! Getting Microsoft to recognize and then support an open effort like OpenID is a first step. You won’t see Google doing that - that’s for sure!
Ethan Stock sent me a shoutout and support during my emotional distress moments. Thanks dude!
Continued coverage with headlines like: “The Trouble with Social Networks” tell me that this thing HAS become a commodity. This is exactly where I thought we’d be - right now.
Eric Alterman - Chairman of KickApps has an interesting post called Open Portals, Anti-Portals and the Wholesale Web. His ideas are correct. And it highlights the fact that for every day of the week, for every week in a month - they’ll be different approaches to solve the same problem.
Wal-Mart gets into the movie downloading business - with all six movie studios. That’s the power of Wal-Mart!
danah boyd argues that walled gardens provide context. I agree with her - but I don’t necessarily see why we CAN’T destroy the gardens - at the same time. The fact is - that we WON’T be able to EVER completely destroy walled gardens, just like TV never killed of Radio.
RedBubble, PatientsLikeMe, and the Heel Press are highlights from Pete Cashmore’s latest. I just love using Pete as a source. He makes it so simple.
Congrats to Dale Backus and the future of advertising. And congrats to Doritos and whoever convinced Doritos to “do the right thing”. Though I have to say in terms of ads - that this SuperBowl was rather tame.
My favorite SuperBowl ad - and the ONLY one I can remember was the Chevy ad:”Ain’t we got love” - People who love cars, love Chevy. Though I did like the Moon Office (FEDEX) and ‘Class Mencia’ (No Speak English) ones as well.
And apparently the SalesGenie.com investment paid off.
Steve Rubel reports on a super smart dude at the Indy Colts who’s gone Web 2.0ish and is planning on launching a social network for next season. That SNS will have Clearspring widgets in it.
The Methodists have a social network. Hmmm - better call my mother-in-law - she’s as Methodist Minister.
