Good times were had by all
I turned 50 yesterday and had a private birthday party.
This is the one birthday which has caused me to take stock and recollect. Great things ahead, been having allot of fun - and I’m lucky to have such great friends and family.
Here’s a few memories and a message…..

Jimmi johnson - my old partner and good friend - works for Wheel of Fortune now.
So he put up a message for me.

Here are four men bottom row - L-R - (my Brother - Evan, my son Aron, my brother-in-law Whitt and another son - Jacob) holding cousins (top row L-R) Sarah, Rebecca, then my daughtesr Lucy and Mimi.

Birthdays are about family and this one was no different for me. Here’s a Family Portrait of my family, my sister’s family and my wife’s brother. Only son who was missing - Aron - was playing a basketball game.

Here’s me, with Dave Winer and Val Cunningham. image by Mrs. HAL.

This is my sister Anna and her husband David. Image by Rebecca Eisenberg.

David and Gail Levitt. image by Me. David and I go WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY back.
Thanks to Carl Wescott for the wine and for everyone showing up. And thanks to Andy Fusso for the space and Maura - for all her hard work.

Marc -
Thanks for such a rockin’ party - such great food, people, memories.
Not to get too mushy on your birthday, but did ya know to me you’re both a peer and a mentor - just a few months older, but so wise going back to when I met you and Macromind was first going strong. You’re there with Marvin Minsky, Alan Kay, Nick Negroponte, and Jaron Lanier in forever changing the way I view computing and the world, and blowing plenty of other peoples’ minds - through brains and vision. With your gregarious ways you may have affected the most.
As well as with your products and generosity.
When I founded the first Mac development and research lab at MIT - the Entertainment Science Group at the brand new Media Lab - your software not only inspired us - you handed us libraries and APIs so we could try amazing new things with your awesome team’s code.
And when I wanted media capabilities for the real-time drag&drop languages HookUp! (thanks, Burt Sloane) and Bounce (thanks, Chuck Blanchard and Body Electric), your innovative work and open attitude made all the difference. Then I think of all the designers, developers, companies, consultants, programmers and visionaries who’ve built on your work as I did, and realize we’re talking thousands of people and hundreds of millions of dollars in business, at least.
But you’re right, they ain’t seen nothin yet. I’m so looking forward to starting our second 50 years.

[...] Last weekend I went to a Marc Canter’s birthday party, it was great, but it would have been even better if they had my favorite soft drink. [...]

Happy Birthday, Marc. Keep on keepin’ on.
Hey, we almost share the same birthday, couple of days apart.
50 is when the human tannins really start to kick in, and the aging in your own oak barrel starts to produce the really fine stuff. Best, Jon
