Dust settling, back to work now

OK great - I had a birthday party - now it’s back to work.

If you wanna know what I’m up to, what our product does and my philosophies on things - check out this excellent video interview of me.

Tina Sharkey is making babies - or at least is in charge of everyone making babies.  Rafat Ali claims he has the first word on this deal, and ties Tina leaving into Miller et al leaving - but in fact, Tina left in the fall before Miller’s abrupt departure.  But I love Rafat anyway - and who’s counting anyway?

I really like Tina - she and Jim Bankoff were the brains of AOL and with both fo them leaving, I’m just hoping the new admin will have the chutzpah to ask questions, admit they’re fish out of water and not destroy everything Jim and Tina built (thinking of you - Mike Jones.)

This is a classic “wait and see” scenario.  But meanwhile good luck to Tina.  Now we wait and see where Jim lands.

Basecamp losing it?  More and more I hear of people who loved Basecamp and Backpack when they first starting using it, but have grown completely pissed off at these ’simple services’.  Gee - I guess simple isn’t better - when it comes to actually getting things done.  Jason Fried et al - have it right when they say KISS, but what they don’t get right is a dynamic way to expand the scope of the software - as their users grow and increase their needs.  This dynamicsism (is that a word?) is the future of software.

The Rub, 4Marks (Christian SNS), 8apps (killed my browser), Parentography, MiMun2, VOX Groups (about time), Boxxet, ImThere, YSN.com,

Apple embraces Vaporware

Dave McClure’s new daughter - Layla - born the day after my b-day.  Congrats Dave!

I think I’ll skip the Web 2.0 expo.  Maybe make it to one of the parties, but I’ve had enough hype - for now.

New trend - old media companies with credit or cash left - are buying up ‘marketing services’ and web shops.

Mark Fletcher announces he’s helping TechDirt - they just got Angel funding.  Congrats to all!

What browser were you using? 8apps isn’t doing anything particularly special and all the javascript used are from standard libraries such as prototype / scriptaculous so they shouldn’t be making your browser blow up…
