Best Hits of Last Year - “The Controversies and Big Stories”

Prompted in part by Steve Levy’s viral scam, I thought I’d go back and review all my posts from last year.

I was looking for “the stories” that typified the year and I wanted to try and make this year - a better year.

So combiing through everything revealed some clear categories - of which the first of those will now be revealed.

2006 - The Controversies

Jan. 06

What happened to the Strangeberry technology inside the TiVO? Series 3 doesn’t have it and nobody is complaining about it.

Pre-Supernova dinner - and how come the guy from AT&T that Kevin keeps putting up on stage doesn’t answer our questions about ‘turning on all the dark fiber?’ And Kevin lets him get away with it!

Feb. 06

Paying for Etech speaking slots = $10k

Joel Spolskey leaves a comment and I retort back - I admit I just don’t like sitting ina room listening to someone - the scene is out in the hallway

April 06

I declare that Supernova is a farce - the whole thing just pissed me off. The same people, saying the same things, blah blah blah

Lets do an unconference across the street - it ended up at CNet down the stree

Hugh attacks me - so I mashup back (this is positiive energy stuff - folks - I love Hugh!)

Back again - :-) (this was some of the best fun I had all year! Cause I got to be creative.)

May 06

I ask “Where is Cory Doctorow on this whole Tom Raftrey getting C&Ded by O’Reilly over Web 2.0 term usage” - first blast

My response to Cory’s response - well Cory didn’t like that at all - not at all - yet he comes out supporting O’Reilly
Trademarks vs Copyrights vs Patents - what’s the difference - they’re all instigated by bad Government and Laws - yet Cory doesn’t see it that way

Final post on O’Reilly and Trademarks -

June 06

Export out of Flickr! A MUST! - when I first heard that Flickr was blocking Zoomr I got pissed off

Well maybe I was picking on Stewart unfairly - but then I found out the real deal of what was going on

By end users, for Users, about Users who are used to being used - and this is where we get down to brass tacks and talk about two-way API

We create our own little controversy by sending out invites - to everyone who has ever emailed me

Aug 06

Stop the Presses - Facebook opens up their APIs

Follow the money - the ramfications unfold

How open are Facebook’s APIs? - Details emerge and an onerous TOS comes into focus. And they’re only one way.

Is there a lawyer in the House? - This Facebook TOS thing could cause us troubles

What’s the difference between Facebook’s APIs and PeopleAggregator’s APIs?

A better mousetrap or new form of Lock-in - Google’s true nature emerges - they’re the new Microsoft

I get all sorts of comments on GDate and Google’s lock-in strategy - going back and forth with Chris Messina

Different kinds of conversations going on - the meme continues…..

Sept 06

Facebook gets dissed - and we all laugh about it. That’s what they get for being TOO open

Oct 06

Debunking the Google mystique - 7 points and then some

Where’s the meta-data? - I’m getting tired of vanilla feeds

What about Aggregator vendors? - why aren’t they supporting media feeds?

More on media feeds, aggregator support and coolio functionality - maybe someday we’ll get media aggregators

Nov 06

What Confabb ain’t - my friend DSalim launches a product and I yell about what it isn’t

Why I dislike Confabb - I get specific

Salim says he believes in iterating - and I buy that
Dec 06

So I guess I won’t be having breakfast with Sam Sethi tomorrow morning - I go from Paris to London and the controversy follows me

Conversation facilitation - final word on that

Jan 07

What am I supposed to do if my Wikipedia page - is wrong? There are LOTS of completely spurious things in Wikipedia!

Open letter to Hugh Forrest - this guy claimed that he has no control over who speaks, yet only 100 of 150 seats are voted upon. If he wants to blow me off, fine. But don’t lie to me and hide behind the voting thing.

hey Hugh - thanks for the comment - this is where he tried to hide and tries to take the high road. I don’t fall for it.

Here’s what the panel WOULD be - if I were allowed to have it. Last word

[…] OK - so here we go the final part of the triology of me reviewing all the Best Posts I did last year. After covering the Controversies and Big stories, and then what I posted about ‘Talking ’bout others’ - now it’s time to focus on who pays the bills around here. And what I wake up in the morning for. […]
