Well I guess I’m not having breakfast with Sam Sethi tomorrow
No - it has nothing to do with controversial issues, ethics, who’s wrong or right or what new conferences are gonna be created or not. I’m just exhausted and need to sleep in.
But I will put in my own 2 cents here. My friend Ryan - asked me why I haven’t been blogging. Well guess what? I’m getting work done!
There’s money to be made putting on conferences. With 1,000 people showing up to LeWeb3 - clearly a lot of the money was put into the killer Fois Gras, pasta and pates. But everytime Loic introduced me - he talked about my past, how much I like food and how goofy I am.
YO LOIC - I GOT A PRODUCT TO SELL! PLUG MY FUCKING PRODUCT - WILL YOU!
Afterall - apparently we’re in Buisinessweek this week.
So Michael got side swiped by Sam’s announcements of putting on his own conferences and events. Hmmmm - that’s a pretty lame reason for firing poor old Sam. Loic has every right to call Sam an asshole. He is an asshole. A manipulative asshole. BUt that’s how they train them at Microsoft.
But Sam is gonna make a fortune on this controversy. He’ll land someplace sweet, same as Jason Caacanis did. And Scoble - too. The more controversy - the better the NEXT job is.
Cause everyone wants to hang out with someone famous - and Sam is now x10 more famous than he was before all this.
Paolo has this theory that Loic invited all those politicians - so he could ‘launch a new movement’. The line that was repeated was “I brought these 1,000 people here - and they influence 60M bloggers”.
What I saw was a pretty upset Loic - who was very sensitive to the criticism he was receiving and the was scrambling for damage control. Getting pissed off at Sam was just a bi-product of that.
I (and many others) certainly knew of Sam’s intentions of putting on a ’startup’ event - and in fact, he was supposed to take over Simon Grice’s ‘mashup’ events as well. So Sam was definitely planning on doing all that - before this controversy.
Perhaps Mr. Arrington was on vacation when all these plans were announced and was caught off guard by Sam’s announcements. I believe there is more to his story then is being told. I don’t believe what we know was enough to ‘fire’ Sam. And as Michael spins it - Sam fired himself.
Me - I’m pissed off cause my friend Anina got bounced and had to present at 6:30 - after I split.
One other interesting observation from LeWeb3. Loic mentioned on several occaisions that there were 4 TV stations there. And everytime I went out into the lobby, one of them were interviewing Loic. But nobody else.
I stood around waiting to get interviewed and only a bunch of vloggers asked to interview me. No news team for me - just illegitimate vloggers ( :-) JUST KIDDING!) I didn’t see them interviewing the guy who was CLEARLY the best speaker - the Swedish professor guy, or danah or David Weinberger. The only guy who I saw being interviewed was Loic.
Whatever. All I know I can sleep in, have lunch with Ferhan and her hubbie and make it to Amsterdam for a dinner in my honor. And some deep research into the semi-legalized marijuana business in Amsterdam. Afterall - I don’t drink alcohol at all.
And my 50th birthday is coming up.
I found a place called Peter Jones today in Sloan Sq. Great prices for quality stuff for my girls. Great way to forget about Sam Sethi, Michael Arrington and Loic LeMeur.

If Loic tought that a lecture of Sarkozy would have genereted a great entusiasm, than he must be stupid! Very stupid… Or very arrogant… which is the same

Happy birthday, Marc. You’re never going to get old, you know, as long as you keep having children. And original ideas that impregnate new companies.
You’re one of the few people I know who truly are NOT smoking anything except the real stuff.

Well as Ex co-editor fo Techrunch UK, I for one want to hang out with Sam, but only because he’s famous and only because he sticks it to the man when asked to remove comments. Better an asshole than censor.

Hi Marc,
Sam is not and has never been a Microsoftee.
regards,
Julien.
