Finishing up the year - links
Congratulations to my brothers at ProfileLinker on closing an Angel round and moving out here. The bad news is that the fried chicken and ribs sucks out here. And the bagels - too. But clearly they know where Mecca is and if they’re going to suck up to - and make all these social networks happy - they need to be doing some serious schmooozing. Can’t wait to see their Widgets. And Arrington is right, they’re similar to what we do - NOW - but wait til he sees OUR Widget builder.
And Spokeo is coming on strong. And lets not forget Bebo’s Widgets.
I can’t wait for Om Malik to see our Widget editor in the new version of PeoipleAggregator. Perhaps he’ll let us on stage next time he does a WidgetsLive conference. One thing I can guarentee - I won’t let anyone fall asleep or leave the room. DISCLOSURE: Clearspring has been a client of ours. But perhaps we should call it the Year of Customization and Personalization?
Shel Israel is writing a new book - Global Neighborhoods. I oughta take him on a tour of my peeps around the world.
As far as politics is concerned - I’m afraid that Amerika is not ready for a black man or woman as president - yet. So that means that smiley faced, shiney white guy, from the south John Edwards is our best chance. Now the primaries can be a bloody affair, and lord knows what will happen in the next two years - but as long as John Furrier hasn’t pissed through all his VC money yet - or they give him more - Scoble seems to match the shiney, smiling white guy mode prety well. I’m glad that Robert hung out with Ryan Montoya in New Orleans. And that he doesn’t have to show them how to use RSS. I hope they all had some good BBQ Shrimp - that’s what I miss - REAL BBQ Shrimp!
New Kinds of Brands require new ways ot market them. Most people just call them ‘channels’ nowadays.
Now you know where go to to buy 1UP.com. Lehman Bros. Talk about leaving $$$ in the table - they haven’t even implemented 1/4 of the ideas we built in - 3 years ago.
Hey!Watch, UltraFan, The TOP SNS of 2006, Sportsvite, Social Networking goes mobile,
I don’t know anyone who uses Technorati for blog searches. Do you?
Lucas Gonze is blogging about a new medium - of true multimedia documents. We used to call those things ‘compund documents’. In fact (some people know this story) we invented one of those for our ‘futuristic, object oriented rewrite’ of Director (back in 1989-90). Know what it was called? Macromedia. Instead of finishing the project - they cancelled the project and took the name for the newly renamed company. Fucking assholes. Do you know how far the world would be today - if we had Macromedia - a true compound document architecture back - in 1991? THAT”s one of the ramifications of them kicking me out. All the innovation stopped.
I wonder if Fred Wilson has had any of the famous Jerusalem Artichokes yet - in Roma?
Tee Hee Hee - perhaps Auren Hoffman should shill his rep and put in a few negative ratings. Cause nobody has no enemies. This exposes the problems with ratings and reputation systems. They don’t work. In fact all of the Rapleaf reputations are 100% positive. What a wonderful trustworthy world we live in. What’s ecven more interesting is how easy it was for Auren to raise money for this ill-fated venture. How could anybody expect a profit from this? This is an example of a Bubble 2.0 company.
Best Buy Smart Home - for $15k. I wonder if it includes PIE’s box?
Google now is officialy arrogant. They take it to a new level, says Mary Jo Foley., And she should know. She followed Microsoft - for years - and many of the same schmucks she dealt with at MS are at Google now.
Scott Beale got a free Vista machine. I wonder if it works with Fire and Robots?
Too bad KeePass is GPL. We could have included it in PeopleAggregator if they choose a better license. We’ll just have ot find an alternative.
JOHN DOERR STORY: So right in the midst of me geting played by John Doerr at MacroMind, he takes me aside and asks to talk to me out in the hallway. I’m thinking “FINALLY! FInally I get taken into confidence by this high roller, most powerful of all the VCs. Afterall - he does own a considerable % of my company”. So we get out into the hallway and he tells me the exciting news that he and his wife had just adopted a baby girl. Well that daughter is now affecting his decisions, driving his life and causing him to state that ‘family comes first’. And I get to say that I was there - then. Not that he’d return my phone call now. In retrospect - he was playing me all along. They took our knowledge of the multimedia marketplace, prevented us from getting into audio card upgrades (which becamse a multi-billion $$$$dollar$$$ busienss) and then created/funded 3DO, Crystal Dynamics and Spectrum Holobyte. Oh well. So much for fiduciary duites and Keiretsus.
At least when Larry Ellison backs his own son, he funded the film properly. Gotta go rent that. Don’t get cheap when it comes to raising kids - I always say.
Erik Schwartz wishes he could perform more - too.
I met someone who had the last name - Edelman - at Web 2.0. She said she wanted to do something with us. I sent Steve Rubel a note about it. Still waiting for the phone call. Maybe they have something to make up for - and get smarter - now. I can’t help them solve their problems, but I can try and make them smarter. Meanwhile each and everyone of their clients needs a social network and blogging platform to offer to THEIR customers. With VRM built-in. And OpenID.

[…] Second up - is a post by Kaliya Hamlin called ‘The Network of Me in 2007?‘. I really like Kaliya for her humble, powerful energy she instills in us all. Kaliya goes over the players and dreams we all have for interconnected people based networks. She even plugs Entity Based Social Networks and asks if Paul Trevithick will ever be able to explain the Higgins Trust framework. This is classic Kaliya politeness. Me - I get all uppity and pissed off about any attempt to solve the ‘trust’ and ‘reputation’ problem. That’s why I was complaining about Rapleaf the other day. I’m also getting tired of waiting for ‘attribute sharing’ working in OpenID2. We need it for PeoepleAggregator V 1.2 = NOW! But Kaliya just looking at the bright side and all the progress we’ve made last year. So here’s to 2007 and Kaliya’s optimism! […]
