Original thinking
Hugh MacLeod accused me of being an Original Thinker when we were in Cork, Ireland recently.
I was struck w th how boring all the speakers were and how much fun it was to listen to Hugh. Both of us also spoke at LeWeb3 - so I was running into Hugh quite a lot.
I just spent a month tying to grok exactly what it was he was saying and to disseminate that statement into my being. I’ve always known I was an original thinker and I’ve had my :15, partied like it used to be 1999 and all that.
Now I have ot deal with ageism, los of young, not as smart people as myself and quite a few lucky entreprenuers - who (of course) KNOW that they are smarter than me. As we view compeition and colleagues in a different light, I take these young people at their word and concentrate on delivering value to customers.
Being an original thinker means that you don’t care about Citizen Journalism, search engines, blogging per se or any other trend or buzzword du jour that might emerge. You care about what you care about, stay focused on your vision and wait for others to grok it.
You can try and explain it, pimp yourself, make sure people spell your name right and other forms of ‘viral marketing’ - but the surest way to reinforce your own self confidence is to watch others catch up to where you have been - for years.
So Spokeo and ProfileLinker, NetVibes, VOX and others are all grokking what I said a while ago and are helping to evolve what I call ‘digital lifestyle aggregation’.
Thank Goodness.
Cause I’d rather be ahead of the times and be called an original thinker than be wrong and called a nut case.
This is when open standards likle Media RSS, OpenID, FOAF and XFN come in. Enter stage left.

Speaking of PeopleAggregator, there is no easy way for me to see my own UID in PA so I can add my profile to ProfileLinker.

Oh, that Hugh is full some some BS
Marc, since I’ve first heard you speak, there was no doubt you’re an original thinker. Now if we can just keep you from falling asleep at bloggercon
Copycat thinker, Jeremiah

I’m sure and ertain that you are an original thinker, Marc. I remember an early conversation or two with you, in 2003, about digital lifestyle aggregators and have watched as much of what you were describing has slowly slid into place.
I’m pretty sure I understood / understand what you meant by DLA’s and have tried explaining the concept to people but have stopped .. as I get pissed off (tho’ probably not as much as you might) at what seems like an ubiquitous and omnipresent desire by most everyone to have everything be as simple as describing Kleenex.
That said, I personally do not find the concept of DLA’s or open standards all that difficult to understand. I am sure that you will continue along your path of original thinking.
What’s that saying … “You can always tell who the pioneers are .. they’re the ones walking around with all the arrows sticking out of their backs”.

an ok example of saying that , numbers and letters are secondary to original thinking . look at the person who discovered , faradays lines of force , michael faraday . it is fair to say that he was one of the few people that had the ability of , standing on the shoulders of giants , so maybe it is fair to say he had , 90 % thinking , and 10 % original thinking ,him being an experimental physicist . so who said that a university degree is worth less than a ticket to the movies . to the founder of this site , i have wonder for a distance of time if someday there would be a site maybe by typing in the words original thinking ,they are worth being on four_tuneds letter head ,

what would some reactions be , what would some of the happens be of the following ,lets say that a person is able to discover and apply the following discovery worldwide , the discovery is the ability to change the transfer-rate of hydrogen from water, the current rate is about 20 minutes for 1 mile of motion for a car, the discovery would be 15 seconds for each 1 mile for the car , so what would happen to the economy
