Marc's Voice

building the open web one bit at a time

Ho Ho Ho

Last night during X-Mas eve services, they recited Luke2:8-21.

I was sitting in the choir, giving my wife the best X-Mas present I could give here - ”singing in the choir for X-Mas eve services”.  So they start reciting:

There were shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And Lo, an angel of the Lord shone about them, and the glory of the Lord should shine upon them, they were sore afraid. The angel said unto them, “Fear not! For behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you, is born this day in the city of David, is a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you.”

Deja Vu flashbacks start flowing through my head.  Years of performing Handel’s Messiah, standing in choruses, singing baritone within a multitude of great voices.

Glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men.”

So I start humming along with the minister.

I really miss gigging all the time, touring around in a choir bus, singing for folks - especially during the holidays.  There’s something wonderful about sharing music with your friends, performing together, singing X-Mas carols and being giving hot chocolate - while you’re standing out in the cold.

  1. Have you heard the recording of what must be one of the biggest Messiah disasters if all time?

Drives me a bit nuts that I have no time to perform on stage. All I do now is sing with my wife when she’s practicing and needs a tenor at the end of Ah forse è lui or Act 1 duke/gilda duet.
