[...] I wonder if I should go off and go rogue at SXSW. Some agree. But it won’t be last time. I won’t let Dave Winer take over. Besides he won’t go to Austin - anyway. But I bet Jon Lebkowsky would like to do something. We can call it “Old Foggies unite” or “the Has Beens conference”.
[...] Well I love SXSW so much that I almost don’t mind not speaking there. Gives me more time to schmooze, show Mimi what SWAG means and attend allot of parties paid for by VCs. [...]

And if the breakout panel is in the Salt Lick, you'll have me flying in from Ireland too. Mmmm, brisket. Hopefully see you here in Cork at the end of the month.

[...] Also, this year the process of picking panels was driven in part by voting from the masses. I don’t know how much the voting figured into the final selection. I did notice today, however, that a panel from longtime participant Marc Canter (interactconnecting social networks together) didn’t get selected. Oh well, Marc, as you said, there’s always Salt Lick! [...]

There's nothing stopping you from doing a presentation to people somewhere other than a conference room... If "their loss" wasn't a flippant remark, perhaps you should not let it be a loss?

I didn't find the explanation of the panel very compelling,

<blockquote>"This panel will demonstrate and discuss the various open standards and techniques utilize to inter-connect social networks together Representatives of both large and small social networks will discuss their networks policies and support of this notion. Authentication, IMPORT/EXPORT and a wide range of "inter-connect" verbs will be shown - including create a friend, create or join a group, send a message or post content."</blockquote>

but perhaps enough other people did to make it worthwhile to do it anyway?

That's disappointing. I stumbled onto your panel last year (something about the Mobile web) never having heard of you or caring much about social networks, and you were easily the most compelling speaker I'd heard.
