Marc's Voice

building the open web one bit at a time

Good morning campers - it’s almost Turkey Day and the end of the year

Its getting to that time when folks get all retrospective and visionary - at the same time.

Me - I’m about to embark on (what is turning into) my yearly beginning of December trip.  So I had to go get additional pages for my Passport and then I’ll be able to get my Indian VISA. Ballmer and Eisner have been there recently, now it’s my turn.

Meanwhile…..

UMG (Universal Music Group) sues MySpace.  And so it begins.  John Battelle says Ross Levinsohn got out of there just at the right time. And left all the poo for another Levinsohn to worry about.  See the actual lawsuit here [via pk]

OK let’s see - if MyBlogLog is worth $10m and it has almost no technology OR flow - then PeopleAggregator will be worth……..once we get a few networks up and running and all my ranting and raving turns out to be visionary prophesizing.  Again.

Gather, RockYou, Trouble, Liberated Films,

The first thing you need to do to change, is to recognize that there’s a problemCongrats to Bard Garlinghouse for that!

I agree with Nick - these recent purchases are Yahoo consolatioin prizes - trying to make up for not buying Facebook. Remember YouTube was free to Google as their stock price rose and paid for it several times over.  The question is “would Yahoo’s stock price also risen if they had purchased Facebook?”

If Fred Wilson is such a fan of Flash and Flash desktops - he should take a look at Laszlo.  Think Macromedia came up with the idea of an XML langauge that compiles into Flash? HAH!  And Laszlo will also spit out D HTML and eventually XAML.  Their digital life platform is years ahead of the pack and they could use some offsetting PRto counter balance the Adobe theft machine.  Be warned Fred - if one of your startups shows Adobe anything - you’d BETTER have the meeting videotaped!

I respectfully disagree with my friend Dare Obesanjo. I do believe that social networking will be bolted ointo almost everything - to different degrees of success and failure.  And capitalism and ecommerce will be one of the ways it all gets glued together.  But not the only way.

Hopefully Lisa will get invited to Ponzi’s bachelorette party. I’ll be in India - so I can’t attend the wedding, but Lisa will be here.

Looking forward to the Laughing Squid 11th Anniversary party tonight.  For once - I’m in town when Scott throws a party!

Jay Dedman is right - video does change the conversation.

Geek to Geek - might as well use the blogosphere to find out abotu bug fix status - right?  Kev - why don’t you just call Marten directly?  I can hook you up!

Nick Denton reports on Google’s new NYC cafeteria.  “Hey Nick - it’ds called Valleywag, not theStreetsofNYCWag!”  That coupled with Nicks coverage of TechCrunch NYC must mean that Nick thinks we give a hoot about anything not off of 101 or 280!
