OpenID in Technorati
My first reaction to this announcement - was right on. We need as many people using OpenID as possible.
However on second glance - this again reminds me of the lack of functionality that the initial OpenID standard gives us - and why getting an OpenID 2.0 out - if imperative.
I just got off the phone with Dick Hardt and he tells me that we should have eveyone agreeing as to what OpenID 2.0 is - within a few weeks. I’m betting by the end of the year. Then of course we need to get LiveJournal to support that - as they represent 99% of the OpenID world today.
SSO alone is not enough to promulgate a federated open ID platform. We need data interchange, secure, authenticated movement of end-user’s data - before ‘we’re there’. aving Technorati support OpenID is incredible, buit it’s just a start.
OpenID 1.1 gave Technorati what they needed so they can offer folks teh ability to ‘claim blogs’. But who needs to claim blogs? Not us! We need full movement of data - and that requires OpenID 2.0.
“Being able to move attributes around is really important, and that’s why we need OpenID 2.0″. - says Dick.
