Marc's Voice

building the open web one bit at a time

FacoryJoe groks it

Listen to this guy. He speaks the truth.

Now that Google has shown their overall plan - by coercing Dodgeball users to switch over to GAuth - be prepared for all ose YouTubers to be coerced to do the same.

This is what happens when a single source, proprietary approach to the open web is promulgated.

Instead, Chris aptly points out - Google could have their cake AND also support OpenID - so that those of us - who can see the train acoming from miles away - will stay AWAY from the Google mousetrap and stay independent.

All this - put into the light of CardspaceYahoo’s BB Auth and the recent announcement of AOL being able to use AIM’s APIs for authentication - leads to a rosy future of Identity hiubs gatewaying between these walled garden silo behemoths.  That’s what we’re doing with PeopleAggregator.

But if we let Google have it’s way - they really WILL turn into the next Microsoft - which lets’ see, yup - was convicted of being a monopolist - twice.

  1. What i don’t get Marc, is why you laud BB Auth as an example for openness. Does it support OpenID? Not that i know. Seems to me it is just as much a silo play as GAuth, no?
