Marc's Voice

building the open web one bit at a time

Visual link posts

I’m gonna try something new.  Instead of just text links, I’ll post an image for every post.

Randy Morin is an RV Dad.

He’s been going off every weekend to someplace coolio around Ontario.

Usually by the lake.

We went to Santa Cruz to a KOA camp site.

Lisa wants one of those teardrop ones - or a VW camper.

This guy - the Rub of Clubs - has a Facebook object.

I can view this object and I am not a Facebook member.

Does this put Rob in violation of the Facebook TOS?  I’m asking this as we’re about to put out support for the Facebook APIs and I’m afraid we’re about to break the law.

But first I gotta check out the new Facebook announcements - from today - before I go off and start blogging about how mean Facebook is.

I mean - I LOVE Facebook.  I love the fact that they’ve given us open APIs.  I just hope they’re really open and not some bait and switch scam.

UPDATE: Here’s Rub’s comment…….

Elise Bauer sure knows how to cook.

Got leftover corn from your Labor Day BBQ?

Well then here’s a scrumptuos corn chowder recipe.

Aren’t visual blog posts more interesting?

GoingON Networks has announced a deal with Opinity

Opinity has a deal with Rapleaf.

Hmmmm - sound slike we better get a deal with Opinity - too.

Meanwhile my wife is lusting over all sorts of……

Well lets just say she enjoys a nice sleep and would like to camp - more.

 Faceparty - yet another…….

Paolo has been doing this stuiff for years.

He not only could be considered one of the first dudes to do tag based aggregators - but he’s the #1 Paolo - everywhere.

Just try typing in Paolo - into a search engine.

One above Paolo Soleri - not bad!

  1. Mister Marc! It’s the Rub of Clubs. I don’t believe I’m breaking TOS. After all, I compiled the badge from my own facebook profile!

And here’s my own two cents - sans blog entry: At some point, it’s going to have to be a matter of following the rules, or not following the rules.

Now, this isn’t a full reality yet. Especially because no one wants the API changed in a way to completely pull the rug from under them. But once enough third party services are in place, SNS developers won’t be able to change their API rules willy nilly.

I know that PeepAgg is totally legit, and it should be. But if you build in decentralization as an underlying feature, then you’re not responsible for creations made by users.

And yes, I’ve heard your video porn story. But I still think that your best bet is to keep your head up, continue to make progress, and make it clear on both ends that you’ll follow rules, but you can’t guarantee anyone can.

I feel passionately about this because SOMEONE will have to stand up to the Myspace/Facebook cabal. And they probably won’t be able to have as much of a stake in it as you.

  4. It’s actually really difficult in Ontario to camp somewhere where there isn’t a lake. The pic was from a campground just north of Niagara Falls. Thanks for the link love!
