So I was browsing through all my links tonight - and ran into a Richard MacManus post on Gotuit.com - a new video ‘portal’ that features ‘video search’.  I wouldn’t really call it a portal - as all there is - is on-demand content, but who’s counting.

But what struck me by this particular play (besdies the fact that it only has ‘professional content’ (none of that fake content - was the just how horrible the video and audio quality was with GoTuit.com. 

You see I spend a lot fo time watching Long Tail video nowadays and am constantly comapring the quality of this video - if for no other reason - we have a client in Canada that is paying us to study this market - and ascertain “the best”.  So I get allot of this “my codec is the best” stuff.

I have been - for years.  Everybody always thinks there’s is the best.

So I have tricks when looking at video; the frame rate, the edges, motion blur, color quality - that always breaks down with ‘average compression codecs’.

Well let me just tell you - I went to this ‘portal’ and was befuddled at the granularization and lo-res-ness of the video. It was embarassing!  Do they really think they can be a successful video portal in today’sd market with that quality?

Then I pluged in my hi-quality speakers and stereo and had a listen to the audio.

OMG - I wonder if this guy THINKS this is good video and audio?

I wonder if they realize how totally shity this video quality is.  Certainly LESS quality that YouTube and typical web video. 

Wow! is all I can say.
