Links for a Saturday afternoon

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Larry Tesler blogs that Joy Mountford (old friend) has put on a ‘University Design Expo 2006′ thingie for Yahoo. Lots of whacky shit that has nothing to do with software development - but looks good on your resume - if you wanna be lke Don Normon or Peter Merholz.  Still not sure why this is [...]

Open letter to Mary Hodder

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

BACKGROUND:  Mary and I attended an OpenID2 meetings on Thursday night - at her offices on University Ave. in Berkeley. In attendance were Kaliya Hamlin (Indentity Woman), Dick Hardt (Sxip), Owen Davis (Identity Commons), Scott Kveton (JanRain), Fen Labalme, Andy Tao and a host of other ‘open ID’ folks.
David Recordon (Verisign) gave us a status [...]

Water on airplane flights

Friday, August 11th, 2006

I bring a jug of water with me on every flight I take, as they never serve enough water, water is essential to be hydrated and healthy and you dry out when aloft.
So this latest ’situation’ has heavy consequences on me.
What I suggest is that every air carrier put a plastic bottle on every seat [...]

Add another Crowd to the list

Thursday, August 10th, 2006

MY apologies to Phil Wilkinson and his team at Crowdstorm.
I completely mixed them up with CrowdFactory - and the team led by Alex Mouldovan (an ex-Tribe.net guy I worked with.)
So - good luck Crowdstorm and where the hell is Crowdfactory? When is it gonna ship?
Well - at least nobody has called themselves CrowdSpace or CrowdPages [...]

LInking instead of being at Om’s party

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Om Malik never invites me to his parties.  Something has to be done about this.  More later.
Michelle Quinn spells my name right - when it comes to talking about our favorite Valleywag.
Turns out Crowdstorm ain’t ‘just’ a social network.  Congrats to Alex and his team.  Everybody has to have ‘an angle’.
Its official - Bebo is [...]

Reality time sets in

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

The theme of these links will be “getting a check on reality”.  I’m sitting here working through my list fo 150 things we need to get done with PeopleAggregator - and what order to do them in.  This is being said, while also knowing that we’ve got to listen to our end-users, read feedback and [...]

Casting your votes for panels at SXSW

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

I’ve just cast my 10 votes for what panels I’d like to attend at SXSW.
Man!  What a line up.  173 panels were offered and I could have voted for about 25 of them, but they only allowed 10.
So I opted out on all the ones I KNEW were gonna be there - like Matt Mullenweg’s [...]

Repositioning PeopleAggregator

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Many people were confused about what our PeopleAggregator was for when it was released.  We had just spent months hunkering down to reach our hard deadline of Gnomedex, so it caught me by surprise.
“What do you MEAN you don’t understand what it’s used for?  It’s for creating and running your own social network!”  This was [...]

Hanging out with the deer in my backyard - and posting links

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Out here in Walnut Creek, we’re right on a large state park and reserve.  So the deer come down to eat and play.  My girls love them!
Tara is not only Miss Rogue, a Pinko marketing babe and helping us out tremendously - but she’s also a slob.
Congrats to Chad Dickerson for taking over from Jeffrey [...]
