Its a cool night, so time for cool links

Steve Rubel reveals some of his data mining tricks and where he finds people - to hunt down and treat them like he’s a flack.  Lord help me - if I ever get caught between the crosshiars of this guy.

Don Park is speculating a link boycot of Friendster if they DARE spend some of their VC money hiring lawyers to extort money out of people.  How DARE they do that.  I’ll lay you even money they file their first lawsuit before Turkey Day.

Hah!  Turns out AOL does listen to my advice once in a while and they’ve decided to give away 5G of storage (on XDrive) to every AOL or AIM member.  Now they just need to tightly couple that storage to a DLA like interface - that bridges the car, home liviing room, mobile device and game machine - with the PC - and they’ll be downloading Harry Potter movies and on-demand CNN til the cow’s come home!  This is EXACTLY the synergy that AOL is capable of delivering!  AIMpages is two turns of the crank away from that state.  But first they need to just get Version 1 out!

Notice I didn’t say anything about Xdrive owning all the ‘virtual Finder in the cloud’ patents?  Lordy lordy please just keep those documents in the filing cabinets.  But I could see AOL playing those patents as a trump card, once S3, Live drive, NetVibes, Box.net, 30Boxes, Pageflakes, Gdrive and all the rest - launch and are firmly entrenched into each and everyone’s digital lifestyles.  These are CORE patents to a lifestyle we all are headed towards.

Speaking of AOL - read Ted Leonsis’ take on the New AOL. This is what corproate blogging is all about.  Get the message direct from the boss.

I too am getting hip to VMware.

I met Ed Battista the other night at the Meetup demo I did.  Here he’s gone and analyzed Ray Ozzies speech to the financial types this week.  Apparently Ray rapped out Attention pretty well and said Microsoft is gonna be all over that shit. (I can hear Steve Gillmor russling up in the attic right now.)  Anyway - Ray is the future of Microsoft and it amazes me how much I learn from Microsoft and still wanna play with them - to this day.  Whatever they do - I know we can do - faster.  They just kind of lay out the groundwork and principles totally verifying to me all my instincts.  Even the original Longhorn architecture was right on.  It just wasn’t web based.  But it had all the right constructs.  So I’m looking forward to working with Microsoft and their Live platform.  It should map pretty well to ours (and when I say ours - I mean all of us - decentralized, distributed, meshed independents - us.)

Speaking of Microsoft - Live Spaces: 100M monthly visitors, each with blogs, photo sharing, Live.com gadgets on their pages, buddies from MSN - all integrated together.

Hey, very good suggestions, i really like those services, specially box.net and http://www.pageflakes.com , it’s a startpage with box.net modules, I can share pages and see all my box.net files there, it’s really nice. I really enjoy live spaces too.
