Yet I’m thinking about walking the streets of London, or Paris - or sitting by the Adriatic in Trieste, or the bay in Vancouver.
I’ve had a fantastic couple of years flying around the world - getting paid to educate, rant and rave. I clients seem to appreciate what I have to say, as many of them resign us up or come back later.
But I sense that this fall and winter things will be different.
I sense that I’ll be in LaLa and NYC allot more often, doing deals - shipping social networks. I sense this is the year that BBM will grow, and I’ll finally have to stop doing everything myself. We’ve found this fantastic product manager - her name is Maura Sparks.
We’re all pretty acquainted with our various picadillos and we’re starting to crank out code on a pretty regular basis now. Our new license is going through its final stages (thanks Curtis and Jaemin!) and we’ll soon be able to announce our first few deals.
We’re averaging over one serious call - a day now - so that means its time for a sales force. Now gee - how can I find ONLY the best bodies out there - who want to help change the world?
Oh yah - I know - I’ll blog it.
Do NOT expect anything normal if you come to work for BBM. Sure we got a product which gets bought by customers - but that’s about where it ends. We HAVE to protect our customers - and their customers - whether they like it or not.
I used to say “the client has every right to be as stupid as they wish” - but that’s about to stop.
I remember one day (back in 1987) Entertainment Tonight came knocking at our door - asking if we had anything to do with creating this softcore porno interactive game. It was created with VideoWorks II. It was called Virtual Valerie.
I tried to explain to them the difference between a tool and the content created by that tool - but they would hear nothing of it. And neither would my first wife.
We’re faced with the same predicament when selling social networks. They need to be operated in a safe, socially concious, respectable and responsible manner - and we’re not gonna tolerate any abuse of that responsibility. We’ve got clauses in our contract insisting upon the right of the end-user - and to the rights to own their own attention info (for instance.)
This contract will be available at a site called PayAsYouGo.org - for free - for anyone who also wants to sell their code this way.
