Vox#4 - Integrated Media Galleries

Way back when I was working on 1UP.com, I asked them for integrated media galleries.

I noticed that we were importing artwork as avatars, into contests, using them for blog posts and we used images in groups as well.  So instead of having folks independently load images into each section, I proposed that we integrate all; the image uploading and storage - into one interface.

Then we came up with a way of ‘routing’ images to all the places we wanted to within the system. Once I had an image in the gallery - I coud reuse it - without having to upload it again.

Seems kind of logical - right?

So does having hardwired interfaces to external storage repositories.

Notice that the image (below) is BOTH an interface into the Integrated media gallery, but ALSO an interface for microcontentpublishing.  Pretty cool - huh?

I used to try and explain that for hours to people and yet we’d always end up with a media gallery over here and a publishing interface - over there.  SixApart has successfully merged the two together.

So there you have it - yet ANOTHER coolio thing Vox has started doing - but they’re not done yet.
