Vox#2 = Hardwired interfaces = ‘gotta start somewhere’
My second piece on Vox is going to focus in on the hardwired interfaces they’ve built-into the product.
Rather than worry about supporting an open standards (at first) they’ve gone and provided some pretty compelling experiences - which work - just right.
They work just right because they show that SixApart knows that your photos, videos and audio - aren’t necessarily inside of Vox. They reside all over the place.

This version of Vox supports Flickr, Photobucket and iStockphoto for images, Amazon, YouTube and iFilm for video and just Amazon for just audio and books.
This notion of collecting and making these remote media items (from all over the place) available in one place - is one of the things we’re trying to provide with our PeopleAggregator. And we will eventually get there.
Its also a key aspect of Integrated Media Galleries - which I’ll get to in Vox #4.
But Vox has gone ahead and hardwired themselves - to just a few storage repositories right now -just to make sure that Mena’s mom can use it NOW. The search really didn’t work that well - and I’d MUCH rather have access to my own account, if nothing else, but hey - like I said - this is just a first step for them and a lesson for us.
SixApart got tired of waiting for open standards to evolve. So they took it upon themselves to hardwire themselves to a few solutions.
Me too. That’s why I posted my Open Letter to Mary Hodder - yesterday.
I’m proposing that we move forward with widespread import/export of aggregation and profile information - even if we DON’T have an open standard to do it in. That hasn’t stopped SixApart - and look how coolio THAT is?
I myself am gonna have fun playing with something that even comes CLOSE to our vision of the future.
So how ’bout it Mary? Let’s do it. And get AOL and Cyworld involved - as well.
