In the past few days: Dash, ParentsConnect, StudentFace, Fanspot (not to be confused with FanPop), Minti, something the former CEO of MySpace is doing and something that MTV is up to. At this rate - the notion fo distributed, inter-connected social networks might not seem to weird.
