Yesterday sure was a fun day
I really enjoyed the second half of Bloggercon yesterday, after getting past the initial “what is blogging, how do I blog, what microphone do you use, lets all be Citizen Journalists” portion. Funny how I always fall asleep during the Citizen Journalist sessions. Same thing happened to me at Les Blog.
Probably the most shocking thing said yesterday (to me) was when Jay Rosen asked Niall - “what does this have to do with blogging?” As if the conference was supposed to be ONLY abotu blogging.
My god.
I was so dumbstruck - I sat there with my mouth wide open. How can somebody ask that question in 2006?
Today we’ll miss the ‘Dave Winer’ show until late afternoon. I gotta show everybody the Farmer’s Market and then we’re gonna go attend BarCamp. But I’ll get back there for the closing.
The system appears to be stable, its up at it’s final resting home - we’re now doing final UI tweaks, shooting video, adding defauly/built-in content, doing ‘out-of-box’ testing, inviting folks who were there before we flushed the database, deciding which ad network to go with, testing moving between networks (totally COOLIO!), etc.

Nah, you weren’t dumbstruck, Mark. You were just being dumb. My question was a question. I wanted to know (as in being curious) what the connection was between blogging and people venting their frustrations about the Web, vendors and software generally. I was not making a big statement that there is no connection. In fact, I said there probably was one, and I just want to know what it was. You know what a question is, you just temporarily forgot, or decided to play dumb.
Too bad you feel asleep for the citizen journalism session, as this discussion of CJ did not resemble any you have heard. It was good to see that later in Bloggercon you recovered your curiosity and vigor.

Jay, amen.
And Marc, if you show a bit more respect for people they might spell your name right.

[…] Turns out Jay Rosen wasn’t asking “what does any of this have to do with blogging?” rather (in his own words - in the comment he left) he was asking: “I wanted to know (as in being curious) what the connection was between blogging and people venting their frustrations about the Web, vendors and software generally.” […]
