Eventual battle over the living room

A number of announcements have been made recently which point to the impending battle over the living.

Yahoo bought Meedio, Cisco bought Scientific-Atlanta, Orb is available on Cingular phones and Bellsouth, Samsung are in Digital Home DealLots of folks are tracking this and we’re not done yet.

These announcements should remind us of the importance of a Home Media Operating system, designed to work in 10 feet mode.  A comprehensive environment which allows us to author for 10 ft, 2 ft and mobile platforms is imperative for our future.

When I saw the XBox 360 seamlessly connected to a Home Media center it was beautiful.  The oft promised home media machine had arrived.  Yah sure - it’s running Windows XP, but worse things could happen.  All I could think of was on-line communities connecting to friendly families, teen-age daughters upstairs being IMed and told to come down for dinner and specific playlists being loaded up onto one’s car system.

I wanted to write a longer post about this but I just don’t have the time.  I wanted to make sure that folks saw these trends.  It really turns me on to see progress in this arena.  I just hope that our browser based software will work - seamlessly.

Man oh man - where are those sunglasses?  The future is looking WAY too bright right now.
