Can you smell that? I can smell it from here!
Gaurav is proud (and rightly so) of his team at Tekriti. They hit their deadline and we’re now officially alpha testing the PeopleAggregator - our social network web service.
If everything goes to plan - round about mid-to-late May we’ll start inviting people in and in June we’ll get all those folks who joined the original PeopleAggregator - back in 2003-2004 - in. Thanks again to Eric Sigler for that orginal effort.
June is also when we’ll start to open it up to bloggers, VIPs and SNS nerds.
We’d also like to make it easy for ourmedia.org folks to move their accounts over. This is a precursor to what we’ll be able to offer the entire world of Social Networking - freeform movement of their personal data and social networks - under their control - not controlled by the system they’re on. This will be made possible by us supporting Sxip Networks, OpenID, i-names, YADIS and what Kim Cameron has come up with at Microsoft.
In 2006 that Microsoft stuff is still called Passport, but in 2007 we’ll be supporting both Microsoft’s own Infocard ID system and the open ‘meta-identity’ system - that will be running everywhere.
BTW we’ll also support Yahoo, AOL and Google’s ID systems as well (if they’ll let us) which means that you can use ANY username within our system. It’ll be a normalised ID namespace for all. A true Identity Hub.
We’re heavily personal publshing oriented and will be including a full set of the StructuredBlogging.org code and its associated open standards - RedirectThis and OutputThis baked into the PeopleAggregator. As SB.org evolves and grows into its own roadmap - so shall the PeepAgg evolve with it.
We’ll cosy up to and support NetVibes, Pageflakes, Omnidrive, Box.net, Xdrive - all sorts of media repositories, list services, events and reviews servers and the new era of aggregators - like Plum and dabble. We’ll have a ton of mashups working with our APIs and glue into folks like Ning - too.
We’ll also strive to support all the myriad of module/widget formats - like the ones coming out from AOL, Yahoo, Google, Microsoft and SixApart. We want to be everyone’s friend. You HAVE to - to be a true DLA and adhere to Canter’s Law #1.
Oh yah - and we’ll integrate with Wordpress as if we were designed to work together - all along!
No we won’t have everything done by Version 1.0 - but we’re trying!
Public launch is scheduled for Gnomedex 2006 - June 30.
Congrats again to the team in Gurgoan. Now folks in New Zealand, Italy, Germany,NYC and SF can pitch in. Its a family affair right now. Wish us luck!

Marc, I hope that Marc Senasac will be able to talk about PeopleAggregator at MeshForum (http://www.meshforum.org) in early May (May 7-9), looking forward to hearing what has been learned in the creation of PeopleAggregator about large scale networks.

marc, this sounds like the what GoingOn was supposed to be when you first announced it last year. Is that vision being implemented in PeopleAggregator? because it seems sort of missing from the GoingOn Alpha.

Right on Marc! This sounds sweet!

I and we wish you luck .. tho’ with an idea like agregating people, I’m guessing it’ll come by. I’ll always remember a lineo fyours, which i use from time to time .. when asked about a business model by someone, you said “it’s the people, stupid !”

Thanks folks. We’re working hard.

PeopleAggregator: Numerical vs. Qualitative Identity
Marc Canter posted on the progress of his PeopleAggregator. He mentions that PeopleAggregator will support a wide range of identity systems including: Sxip, OpenID, XDI I-Names, YADIS, Microsoft Infocard, Yahoo, AOL, and Google. Basically, if a system …

The http://mylid.net/ hosted identity service has been multi-protocol for some time.
As have been relying parties such as http://yadis.org/ , http://rss-extensions.org , http://lid.netmesh.org/ etc.
They support OpenID, LID and Yadis so far, based on the NetMesh InfoGrid implementation. Download at http://netmesh.org/downloads/

[...] PeopleAggregator is leaning in this direction, the beta is a few weeks away. PA has been going since 2003 and it looks like something is about to be actually deployed. Appears they are going to support everything under sun, which makes good copy yet the devil is in the integration. Technorati Tags: identity, peopleaggregator [...]

[...] My Myspace and LinkedIn pages are much more relevant to a potential employer than my Flickr photostream. A potential first date wants to see my photos, personal profile and perhaps reputation, not my LinkedIn profile. That’s why contextual profiles are so important. It is going to be very interesting to see how PeopleAggregator fares. Broadband Mechanics has been working with AIM Pages and they too claim to want to do everything for everyone any way they can with any API. This broad focus makes for good buzz, success lies in them being able to deliver real value to the consumer or advertiser where money changes hands. I’m all for people owning their own data, but most people just don’t know or care enough to make the effort to use these services in their current forms. [...] Shortly before the first presentation of the PeopleAggregator at GnomeDex 2006 on June 30th I found this widet on Phillipp Pearsons blog (well, Marc has it, too, as probably all of the PeopleAggregator team). It’s a list of friends in a Flickr widget like style. For everyone not making it to GnomeDex you still have the chance to get a sneak preview on the PeopleAggregator in Walnut Creek on June 28th. Too bad I won’t be able to make it. PeopleAggregator: First signs of a new kind of tool [...]
