Microformats and Structured Blogging BoF
Alex Barnett has posted some images from Mix06 - including this one of me, promoting the BoF we did today.
Its funny how easy it is to stand out at a straight show like this. Ewan Spence had his kilt on again and I walked around, holding this sign, letting people when and where to go to.
I was using this program called ‘Mix Meet’ - to invite folks to the BoF, but then the code went down and we had to go analog.
The meeting went great.
Joshua Allen got us the ‘food court’ (by talking to two different sets of security forces) only to find out - that there was aq THIRD set of ‘carabinieri’ - who kicked us out! So we had to end our meeting early - just as it was getting going.
Tantek talked about microformats and I introduced folks to the notion of our StructuredBlogging initiative.
So here we were in the food court, yelling to be heard, talking about ‘resolving schema disagreements’ and how the free marketplace will decide - not us. I tried to emphasize that SB.org is about showing off end-user benefits and delivering code - like our plug-ins for Wordpress or Moveable Type.
As the cops broke up our meeting, I pleaded to “go forth and spread to the wind the word of the distributed mesh of microcontent. Take the word to the masses underground - go bring the revolution to the people!” It felt like the 60’s.

That’s the Marc Canter I used to know!

Consistently pushing the envelope of the area he’s involved in. The problem for me is, I can’t really follow what he’s saying, but that’s really due to my own ignorance. But that’s cool anyway; keep on pushing!

uF & SB BoF? Wow, you are doing so many things *right*

Marc, thanks for doing such a great job of fighting to make sure that people understand that microformats and StructuredBlogging are complimentary ideas not competitive ideas. Structured Blogging is an activity, not a format and the focus of the StructuredBlogging.org site is to show people the benefit of doing Structured Blogging (whatever formats they may be using) and to deliver tools to make it easy for them to do it (whatever formats they may need.) Those who think there is some “conflict” between Structured Blogging and “microformats” or any other format simply don’t understand what they are talking about. Thanks for helping to educate them.

And not to put a sledgehammer to the point, but yet again I have a confernece where people can ID me from across the room and shout “Ewan! when they spot the kilt and I either need to fit their fac in ten seconds or get a glance at the namebadge (or Hawaiian shirt) because they obviously know me…
…all about the brand…
