If Songbird is so coolio, where is the XSPF support?
Lucas Gonze and friends worked hard to develop an open standard for playlists - XSPF.
You’d think that a much heralded open source music player would at least support XSPF.
Huh?

I bet it will. These guys are very close to that world. Ian Rogers, who was instrumental in bringing Lucas to Yahoo!, is on Songbird’s advisory board. Using Songbird on Webjay is already pretty great. It’s also awesome on Swedelife. Songbird does have a ways to go, but I know for a fact that they are working day and night on it and will not stop until it’s the ultimate media player.

Gentlemen,
Songbird 0.1 is still a hatchling, a proof-of-concept. Obviously we mean no hardworking man, woman, cranky pundit or playlist format any disrespect. XSPF will likely be Songbird’s default playlist format. You may recall that Ian Rogers and I championed XSPF at Y! for Y!ME.
Indeed, one should expect that XSPF is only one aspect of the many formats, methods and protocols that will define the desktop media player to digital media network service provider architecture. Check the Songbird roadmap for more details. http://songbirdnest.com/development/roadmap/
