Identity Hub strategy by Broadband Mechanics

In honor of Microsoft officialy announcing Infocards and Verisign announcing VIP -  I think it’s time to be official about what we’re doing. Some see what Microsoft is doing as Hailstorm 2.0 (in a bad way) while I have a different point of view than that.

Imagine a persona editor that could faciliatte the movement of your stuff between any or all on-line web services, applications and servcies on the web?  Build your own personalized aggregator pages, and output these pages to any sort of module, page or blog object - anywhere you want.

Take in stuff from your various personas, accounts, feeds, sites or sources; rate, tag and/or comment on this stuff and send it to any module, blog object, community site or even build your own database of your own stuff.

  1. take the stuff in, point at it, don’t move - unless you want to
  2. do something to it.  Veränder es. Faccia qualcosa ad esso. Reblog it, Rate it, Tag it, Comment on it, Organize it - or create your own
  3. output it.  Route it to blog objects, modules, widgets, plug-ins, mobile and sort of page or publishing system.

Nice - symetrical and politically correct.  Supporting any and all standards that exist, creating a bridge and gateway between these disparate federation systems.  VIP and Infocards, Liberty Alliance and light weight YADIS folks and OpenID.  Independent platforms and giant behemoths.  We don’t care, we just give the users compatiblity into their existing digital lifestyles.

It’s the same strategy we used at MacroMind and it worked.

I feel that this tool and idea are as important as timelines were to multimedia (Director/Flash.)  It’ll have an integrated social network and personal publishing baked into it and support all modern open source infrastructire APIs, protocols and standards.

Each of it’s elements will be available as open source components so you can out it together in any way you want.  We’ll leverage the hell out of Sxip Networks and work with all compatibly minded ID systems.
