More StructuredBlogging feedback
Been reading up on what Arnad Leene has to say about our announcement.
You see Arnaud is one o f the microcontent homboys - a true believer who has been flogging this horse for a couple of years now. He’s my reality check in the real world - seeing what sticks and what needs to be clarified.
Now that we did a podcast on SB.org, Arnaud (and someone named Norma D’Arcy) are bringing up good points. Norma wants ‘learning object’ microcontent types - which is actually what Joe Reger’s product does well.
As Arnaud brings up in a later post, the issue of how the microcontent is used - for public or private purposes - is one underlying notion that complicates the landscape. I extrapolated (in real-time I may add) - that one could imagine a registry of schemas - to keep track of all the stuff folks are creating.
That’s not what StructuredBlogging.org is planning on doing - soon though. We’re more focused on being an initiative to consolidate and place into one giant happer - ALL the variants and flavors of microcontent formats - so we (the geeks) can provide seamless, transparent end-users benefits.
StructuredBlogging.org will not create formats, rather act like a clearing house to make sure that all the different approaches to publishing and storing structured data are supported and that any mapping - that may be required between variants - happens seamlessly.
Does that make sense?
What we’re also hoping to do is provide generic XML shared repositories (sort of like Phil’s Coffee review site) - so we can expect all sorts of dedicated, vertical microcontent sites to start popping up. Ideally these sites would all federate and provide comprehenseive world wide coffee reviews (or whatever.)
This Pandora’s box is just starting to open.

er, it’s D’Arcy Norman, not Norma D’Arcy. We met at Northern Voice 2004 in Vancouver.
