An outpouring of recognition, reaction and thanks

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

Doc, Staci, Barb, Scoble, and others have all weighed in on thanking Dave Winer for his work. The sale of Weblogs.com seems like a good time to do that.
Danny Ayers and Jason Kottke seem concered with ’saving public ping - but remember Matt Mullenweg has ping-o-matic - so I think we’re covered.
I certainly agree with [...]

The spread of XSPF

Sunday, October 9th, 2005

XSPF is an example of one of those standards that’s been bubbling up from under for a whle now - and is beginning to take it’s righteous place in teh forfront of grass roots standards.
XSPF is a format for playlists. It was created by Lucas Gonze and the community that surrounds a service called [...]

Happy Birthday to the EFF

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

Bummer I missed the party. I seem to remember being there when it was created. They’re fighting the fight - for us.
Thanks to JD for the photos, and thanks to John Gilmore, John Perry Barlow and Mitch Kapor for founding it. Where’s Esther?

Winer sells Weblogs.com to Verisign

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

LOTS of things have been happening while this show was going on and the most important is that I can now talk abvout a deal - I’ve been keeping quiet about for a long time.
It’s REALLY important that money gets put into Dave Winer’s pocket. As long as that happens - he can’t complain [...]

Now the race is on - “who can be more open?”

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

So in case you haven’t noticed - AOL is now starting to ‘copy’ Yahoo and go open. It’s fun to watch.
Not only did they buy a blogging company, but they kicked some serious bootey with their Live8 promo, opened up AOL.com and are consolidating everything with Parsons blessings.
This is an example of T-W [...]

What a show!

Saturday, October 8th, 2005

It’s all about people - so here are some of my favorites:
Let’s start off with Dare Obesanjo and Tom Reilly.
Tom was a young scrub reporter when he fly into Chicago to interview me in 1985. He later went onto practically inventing the notion of guerilla marketing in the Mac marketplace while at [...]

Hella day yesterday and today promises to be more

Friday, October 7th, 2005

I’m not blogging the show, I’m just doing the show.
To make Web 2.0 real we need lots of interop, support for open stdnards and real products and services for humans.
That’s why my little company (Broadband Mechanics) does - and I’d like to thank John Battelle and Tim O’Reilly for making this show possible - so [...]

Yahoo - the witch is dead!

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

I’m writing this post - while missing Terry Semel at Web 2.0. If I was there - I’d be dancing ecstatic about Jim Moloshok leaving Yahoo.
This guy was old school, was hiring the WRONG people (names withheld - until they leave) and was setting up his own empire down in LaLa.
The new Yahoo doesn’t [...]

Thursday, October 6th, 2005

If yah wanna know what happened during our workshop - Dare Obasanjo has an excellent recant.
I thought it went pretty well.
I had to interupt and veer a few times - but that’s what a moderator is suppsoed to do. And I didn’t toot my own horn - too much at least.
What was most exciting [...]
