Open Media Developers Summit

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Hey! I’m an open media developer!
I guess I should be going.
Oh well. This outfit sure sounds like what JD and I were starting - when we embarked on ourmedia.org a year ago.
Oh well - I guess we were too busy giving away free bandwidth and storage to actually get on with the:
- [...]

Apple’s real strategy

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

I’m glad to see at least somebody caught the importance of Apple’s Front Row announcement.
Matt haughey has a post called Moving towards becoming a Media Center? in pvr blog.
I’ve been waiting for this since 1990. That was the year Apple first showed me their secret set top box, based upon the Mac. They [...]

Sounds like a party

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Over 100 people have signed up to hear Dave Winer speak, eat food (what’s being served?) and listen to demos at the TechCrunch 3rd Meet_up. So many people - that they’ve ‘closed registration’.
I wonder if they’re paying MeetUp anything for the right to call a MeetUp.
They call it a BBQ - but I call [...]

Who’s missing from this list?

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

I usually don’t care about lists, and I almost NEVER care about VCs - but this list of VCs who grok open source is missing one guy - who I’ve been working with and really admire.
His name is George Coehlo.
He works out of the London office of Benchmark.
He has also invested in MySQL. This [...]

Brian Dear says he won’t ‘flip’ EVDB

Right on to that Brain - but I onder what Esther and S Jurvetson will say about that?

Innovation 2.0

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Jeff Clavier has a fantastic post which shows real instincts into marketplace and paths to liquidity facing us today.
Throughout the 90’s I was plauged with the understanding that if I took VC funding, the vision of what I wanted to do would be compromised with the hunt for the IPO.
Then came along Om Malik’s piece [...]

It’s not a war, it’s a lovefest

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Stowe Boyd senses that there’s a war going on between two different approaches to ‘micro-content formats’. I agree, I saw this coming - and we’re doing something about it.
Stowe interviewed both Tantek Celik and Bob Wyman at Web 2.0 and discovered the differences between Tantek’s ‘microformats’ approach and Bob’s ’structured blogging’ approach.
Well one of [...]

The love affair between me and Arnaud Leene continues

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Not only does he like my AlwaysOn article on open standards (wait till part four!) but he also groks (as usual) my ‘Structured Blogging’ rap.
Now I just hope that Arnaud makes it to Les Blogs. I don’t see his name on the attendees list!
Lisa, Mimi and Lucy will be there!

Lifestyle 2.0

Tuesday, October 18th, 2005

Once before in my life I had Apple more or usurp and jump on the band wagon of something we had helped develop.
We had been calling the thing - “creativity tools” before Apple started calling it “multimedia”. The rest is history.
Now comes word of the phrase “Lifestyle 2.0″.
HHHHHHHHMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - yes I like it!
