Now the race is on - “who can be more open?”
So in case you haven’t noticed - AOL is now starting to ‘copy’ Yahoo and go open. It’s fun to watch.
Not only did they buy a blogging company, but they kicked some serious bootey with their Live8 promo, opened up AOL.com and are consolidating everything with Parsons blessings.
This is an example of T-W waking up to the inherent value of this money machine known as AOL - which got a little tainted and has an aged business model - but which still has plenty of legs left to it.
So Microsoft made some advances and it woke up Parsons to the real value and all of a sudden Time-Warner’s future is all about AOL.
And then AOL notices the open model that Yahoo has been expounding and…… Web 2.0 comes along.
And all of a sudden we got ourselves a real horse race.
Or at least multiple buyers for small little start up companies. It wasn’t much of a market with Yahoo being the only buyer.
